CLEANING.

Garrell:

There are probably as many methods out there as there are
individuals. One I
have
heard of (Spencer Yost recommends it) is to remove the tank
and put a few
handfuls
of clean river gravel in it, then put it in something like a
rock tumbler
for a time, to
knock all the rust and so forth out of it. I have to admit
I've never tried
it - it does
seem like you'd run the risk of knocking holes in spots that
were merely
weak spots
before you started. [Having gone through patching a gas tank
recently, I'm
sensitive
to that...]

The carb. cleaner method will probably help a lot too, but
it will only do a
really good
job on the bottom of the tank unless you turn it on its
sides and upside
down, too - again
requiring removal from the tractor. I'm fairly certain that
a good cleaning
solvent will
do way more to remove deposits from old gasoline than will
clean fuel - but
a post-flush
certainly won't hurt.
