Cecil,
What do you need to get the data from the surveying system to the new computer?
I have a bunch of old computer stuff & if you need anything I would be happy
to send what you need, if I have it.

I personally like the off topic posts, as there is a wealth of knowledge
within the list members. I have a lot of old tractors and lets get
real. There are not a lot of really high tech or rocket scientist
problems that erupt with them. The most complicated thing is the
hydraulics and those problems are usually a leak or not leaking as it
should. These things wre made simple so they would last 4 lifetimes.
Right now I am trying to work with some fairly sophisticated surveying
equipment tat is less than 10 years old, but cannot get the data out of
it because the medias have changed in the last few years so that when my
old computer died, I now have no way of inputting the data into the
computer to plot it on autocad. Also my auto cad program is now
obsolete (2004) so I cannot call anyone and get any tech assistance.
Their solution is to upgrade for $5000 My Nikon 2006 total station has
been bought out by Trimble and to get any tech assistance, I have to
send Trimble $1000 each year. only to be referred to a tech support
grunt in India who learned how to speak english by a correspondence
course. My Topcon GPS (2004) survey system is obsolete and the salesman
who knew how to figure out the problem left the company to go to
Florida. He has not been replaced.

At least the guys on this list have done enough varied occupations that
they can relate to what I am talking about and can offer suggestions. I
also believe that just because we have the technology to ad a bunch of
bells and whistles, it doesn't mean we should.

I don't like the format of those other types of lists, I like this one.
I read it religiously. I seldom read a newspaper, but I open up my
email list several times a day.

I personally enjoyed the dynamite story. And I, too, think the
country has changed way way too much
