I recently bought a 51 B that has been sitting for 7 years.
I bought a kit, strainer, load & idle needles, and plug screws because you
could see that the existing ones were buggered up..
There is so much rust in it, I have spent the past eight hours disassembling
this carb. There is one plug screw behind the flange that would not move,
even after repeated heating and cooling. The screw slot was so messed up and
had no luck trying to cut a deeper slot and you can't get an extracter on
it. I ground in down flat with a Dremel tool thinking I could drill it with
a left hand bit. I got sparks while grinding brass.
It appears that some other fool before me had already tried drilling it &
either broke the bit or something else is stuck in there. Probably is the
reason I couldn't cut the screw slot deeper.
The nozzle doesn't want to move either and as stuck as everything else has
been, I don't know if I want to mess with it.
Anyone know if one of the carburetor rebuilders would take up where I left
off?
