The best, most reliable, proven procedure is quite easy, though  
somewhat expensive:

1) Give the present computer to some youngster who understands how to  
mess with them.

2) Go to the Apple computer store, and buy whatever Macintosh  you can  
afford.

3) Rest in smug satisfaction thereafter.
