We made a bumper (we made a lot of our stuff over the years) for our
Jubilee about the first year we owned it. The flat steel for the
supports that bolted to the tractor axle were fabricated from a heavy
steel "tire" from a wooden wagon wheel. The piece across the front was
simply a piece of angle iron about half an inch thick and about 4" on
each side and maybe 42" long. It was mounted with a flat side up. We
welded a typical front hitch to the center of it and put three holes
in the top of it. We had (I still have it) a counter balance weight
from an old Murphy bed. It was solid cast iron and about 3.5" square
and about 42" long. When bolted to the bumper it was just right to
counter balance several 3 point implements we had. The ones that
needed balance weight the most were the 3 point Ferguson hay rake, a 3
point 8' disk, a 3 point corn planter and a carry-all box we used
constantly. The regular stuff like a plow, slip-scoop, cultivators,
sickle mower etc. didn't really need anything. If we had a 3 point
bush-hog it would have benefited from a front weight too but in the
mid-1950s we didn't really know what a bush-hog was. :-)
