[AT] OT oil

I remember our John Deere 4440. I used to use John Deere Torque-Gard
30#. The oil consumption was 1 qt per 100 hours of use. I was talked
into using Rotella T (don't get me wrong, it is good oil) instead of
John Deere Oil. So, I used 30# Rotella T. My oil consumption went up to
about 1 qt per 20 hours of use. I was wondering if something was going
wrong with the engine. I mentioned this to the guys at our local John
Deere dealership. They said to switch back to John Deere Oil, so I did.
My oil consumption went back to 1 qt per 100 hours of use.

I asked at the John Deere dealership who made John Deere oil (this is
back in the 1980's), they said both Shell and Amoco. I asked what the
difference was between Rotella T and John Deere Torque-Gard. They told
me that John Deere has the oil made to their specification, so it was
not Rotella T repackaged, as I was told by the people selling Shell oil.
