Now that you pointed it out, I have found it in manuals from '41, '44 and 
'47.  It does make it sound like an impurities situation.  One pound into a 
hundred isn't very much lime.

By the way, driving a tractor with ice in the tires is not good.  The tires 
can be quickly damaged, especially at the point the edge of the ice meets 
the air bubble.
