That was the year that Dodge changed the design. Best way to tell is to
pull the pan. The good thing is that it isn't hard to do and if the
truck has been sitting it isn't a bad thing. Make SURE you use the
proper fluid when you change it.

If it ran OK when the P/O had it and it only acted up after you
purchased it then I would look over the trans harness REAL close.

The most likely spot for them to chew on is where the trans control
harness passes up the side of the trans and connects to the main harness.

Not really since the trans is computer controlled and won't operate
without the computer.

BUT with a scanner you have already narrowed the problem down to
something to do with the transmission. In the 70's you would have given
the engine a good tune up, then cleaned the fuel system, adjusted the
carb and still wondered what was wrong. BTDT...

Oh and FYI, pest chewing is only going to get worse. There are a couple
companies that are producing wire that has the insulation made from a
soy based material. Nothing like making the wires into dinner!
