The 1939 9n was NOT the first tractor with 3 point, but it was the first  
sucessful one.  The hitch concept was Mr Fergusons', going back almost 2  
decades.  The 3 point with the Ford trans, pto, and engine made a very  useful 
and durable machine. Since Both Ford and Ferg contributed to the  "system", 
Ford felt it had the right to use the system In its own units.   Ford broke 
away from Ferguson in '46, because of many unmanegeable  issues.
    In the 50s, every company adopted the system, as there  was nothing 
better. There are may good books on this.
