[AT] cordless tool battery rebuilding

Has anyone every bought the C batteries separately and soldered them up? All of the units seem to be a bunch of C nicad batteries in series.

For instance, I took my 14.4 Ryobi battery pack apart, 12 C batteries. 14.4 volts / 1.2 volts per battery = 12 batteries.

So, my 18v drill must have 15 batteries.

I see that Nicad C's are about $2.89 (Can they be found cheaper?), so if I did it myself around $35 in batteries. probably not worth it. If I could buy in quantity say four around $2 per nicad or cheaper it might be worth it?

Another one to try is Battery Mart, in Winchester VA.

I have not had any tool batteries rebuilt by them (have to buy one
first.... :o), but I have bought many other batteries from them without
a problem (plus, they are local to me).
