[AJD] Starting Trouble 51-B

You know the old saying: Opinions are like back sides. Everybody has one. Having said that, I will offer a suggestion or two.

If the plugs were not obviously wet when removed, you may not be pulling gas into the cylinders. If this is the situation, you may want to try starting with the throttle as far to idle as it will go and the choke at full choke. This will bring more raw fuel into cylinders with minimal air mix. If that fails, check the plugs again and see if they are visibly wet. If not, it is not flooded. If they are wet, dry them off, let it stand for an hour, then replace the plugs. Try to start again with no choke and full throttle setting.

You probably do not have a fuel tank selection valve on a 51 model. If you do, make sure it is on fuel and not on reserve.

If none of the above does the trick, you will need to check out several other possibilities not mentioned here.

Good luck,

Charlie
