[AT] 2010 JD

Dick,

"Row Crop" is a somewhat generic term. On the JD's of the 2010 era the front ends on "Row crops"
allowed multiple different types a front ends to be used on what was called the "convertible" front
end. The row crop definition really describes a tractor which has widely adjustable rear and front
wheel configurations appropriate for row crops as opposed to tractors which were described as
"Standard" configuration which typically had fixed wide front ends, and fixed tread widths on the
rear. And the rear tires on "Standards" tended to be wider but smaller in diameter causing the
tractor frame to be lower to the ground and not really appropriate for row type crops. "Standards"
were more often used on larger operations such as wheat ranches.

Please help out a city kid here...

I thought a row crop was a narrow front end. Can you give me the Reader's
Digest version of what constitutes a "row crop" tractor as it relates to the
front end?

Thanks!

I had one of those one time. Mine was a row crop with a wide front end, but
no power steering. It always gave good service, but was hard to start in
cold weather.

The pto is indenpendent, at least on the one I had. It had its own clutch,
and the pto lever worked the clutch. The only problem I had was there is a
pin in the linkage to the pto clutch, and that pin sheared a couple times.
You have to lift the rockshaft housing off to get to the pin. It is as
simple as driving the broken one out and a new one in, once you get the
rockshaft housing out of the way.

I may still have the shop manual on it. You can have it for the cost of
mailing to you if you want it. Let me know.
