Interesting thread on engine heaters. The "top of the line" engine heaters are built by Webasto. They are a diesel fuel fired burner with a circulating pump. They circulate coolant though the block and heat it. They also have heat exchangers to heat fuel tanks, hydraulic oil tanks, transmission pans, etc.
I have seen them heat a 2250 horsepower CAT engine, plus automatic transmission, and 3 different hydraulic systems in Siberia from -30 to +65 in about 10 to 15 minutes. They also make smaller versions for pickup truck size vehicles.
They come in different sizes, and are the standard for much of the oilfield in many countries.
