Wow, that sounds too close.  Ike is a yellow, just over 12 years, and 115
lbs.  Was 120 lbs most of his life, but is losing muscle mass....

Cremation doesn't sound so bad.

Frozen ground is probably only slightly worse than bone dry hard ground in 
late July. I had to bury my 12+ year old yellow Labrador Sam last summer. It

was about 90 degrees and I had to dig a big enough hole for a 115lb Lab. I 
used a spud bar and a mattock and it was miserable. You couldn't get a 
shovel more than an inch into the ground unless you picked at it with the 
spud bar and mattock first to loosen it up. The kids were upset, it was hot,

the digging was tough, and I lost my dog - all in all a rotten day.
