I hear ya, Charlie. Years ago, I had to shoot a suffering Springer pup I had
that got mortally hit by a car. It was probably five years before I could
bear to even pick that .22 rifle up again.

Bob I had a pair of pointers 30 years or so ago. They were brother and
sister from the same litter. The female was liver and white about like
your Belle. I named her Ginger because she was the color of a ginger snap.
Her brother was Jack after his father. He was a lighter shade of brown and
white. Unfortunately Ginger got run over and killed when she was just
barely grown. I had Jack for many years and lost him to cancer when he was
about 9 or so. He took a turn for the worse on a cold rainy winter Sunday.
I was sick with the flu, running a high fever and there was no vet open to
take him to. He was crying out with pain every breath he took. I had to
put him down myself. The .22 I used was one my dad gave me for Christmas
and is my favorite gun. I did the deed and then sat down in the pouring
rain and cried for a while before I could bury him. It was years before I
could even bare to look at that gun. I still think about Jack everytime I
pick it up. I have a Golden Retriever now who is about 12. She won't be
around much longer either. Believe me when I say I feel your pain.

Charlie -

Sad day at our house. Our pointer Belle has had liver problems since last
March, but meds seemed to help until about two months ago when she started
losing weight and appetite. An exploratory this morning showed her liver in
advanced stages of cancer. So we had her euthenized right afterwards. My
wife and I were there petting her and talking to her right to the end.

She was a great little dog http://en-us.www.bobmcnitt.org/

Hi Bob,

Actually two of them. The wheels in their heads are always turning but they
have not been taught to drive. I might be able to work on that with the
cost of gasoline lower. (Grin)

Have you read of the new state law to require lights on tractors used on
roads. That in itself is probably a good thing, but there is also other
baggage with it which mandated a truckload of other regulations be developed
for farm tractors on roads.
