[Farmall] 1950 Cub questions

The shavings are not normal. I have not yet ever seen one of these bearings
installed successfully. Every installation I know of has failed. If it
were mine, I'd replace it with the tried and true graphite bearing.

I recently finished rebuilding my 1950 Farmall Cub
(www.oldengine.org/members/jbailey/cubp4.htm). I have a couple questions.
I replaced the throwout bearing with one of the newer, non-graphite,
bearings. Today I removed the inspection plate just to check things out.
I noticed a bunch of shavings on the inside of the inspection plate that had
come off the face of the throwout bearing. Is this typical of a new bearing.
If I
ran the tractor with the inspection plate off and depressed the clutch, I
could actually see the shavings accumulate in my hand when I held it
over the opening.
So, I backed off some on the clutch adjustment. This eliminated the shavings
but then the gears would grind when when I shifted. I finally settled
on a happy medium, very slight shavings and a little bit of gear grinding.
So I have two questions. Is it normal for the gears on the Cub to grind some
when shifting? And are the shavings normal with a new throwout
bearing? Will it eventually wear in? (oops, that's three questions)
