[AT] Looking for parts for STIHL

Bruce,

I went through a similar situation relative to a different part on an over
30 year old 051 or 052 (I think - can't go look) Stihl Chain saw. I am
assuming the parts you need are no longer available from Stihl. According to
the repair shop and Stihl dealer I contacted, the part I needed wasn't made
anymore and wasn't available anywhere through any parts channel. However, he
still had a NOS part in inventory. Even though it was an obsolete part
according to Stihl. This was a very old dealership that had been serving the
logging industry in NW WA for at least the last 30 years, possibly longer.
So I'm suggesting contacting Stihl dealers that have been in business for a
long time and you might find a dealer who still has the part in stock. Or
worst case, possibly has an old parts saw to rob parts from.

Occasionally these older but non-functioning Stihl saws show up on eBay and
sell at relatively low prices. . I've been tempted to buy one of more just
to have a parts source. My Stihl has been one of the most reliable tools I
have ever purchased and has been used heavily for years. I'd hate to have to
part with it or replace it. It is almost part of the family! :-)

I have a Stihl 024 AV Super I need an oil pump. The chain oiler was not
working and the shop told me it was not worth repairing was going to cost
the price of a new saw and charged me $35 for tearing it down and looking at

it. After looking at the parts in the box. It looks like it shouldn't be
that big a deal to replace the pump and drive gear as a unit. Anybody have a

link to parts at reasonable cost?

If I need serial numbers tell me where to look for them. I didn't see
anything obvious.
