You are right on, Ralph.  I have a 1982 one ton 4x4 (CK 30 I guess) with the 6.2 L and also a 1982 1/2 ton with the 6.2 L.  We did have a 1988 Chev 9 passenger wagon with a 307 CID Olds gas engine from the factory.  That was a nice engine, but the car underside rusted away. I hated to send that motor and tranny to the junk yard. I think that was the era when GM was putting in whatever was on hand that day, and some Oldsmobile owners brought action against GM because their cars came with Chevrolet engines.  The first time I changed the motor oil, I sure found out that the oil filter the owners manual called for did not fit on that engine.  If you knew your cars, you could tell which motor you had by the location of the oil filler pipe.  A friendly Mechanic clued me in on that one.
