Charlie:
Make D@#$%^"D Sure you doctor takes care of you after the surgery. My
Dad had Knee replacement and post op put an extra ace bandage over the
one put on by the DR. It cut the circulation off and due to pain
medication it was not found until 3 days later when the Dr. took off the
bandages. Bandages should be changed within 12 hours of surgery is my
opinion.. 6 weeks later with a trip every week to the surgeon for wound
care resulted in a trip to a vascular surgeon for 2 operations to
dissolve the blood clots too late... Then 2 surgeries to amputate the
leg below the knee, then a stroke 6 weeks later, followed by a heart
attack and stroke 6 weeks later again. Now I have an 88 year old
bedfast with congestive heart failure fed through a tube surgically
implanted into his stomach, and I am assisted by Hospice. To get someone
to stay with him during the day so I can get something done costs $600
per week.

I would not have any surgery unless I had an advanced directive and gave
my wife full power of attorney over all my affairs both financial and
medical.. I would also make sure the advanced directive stated no
feeding tube.

Just the facts about replacement joint surgery...
