Slightly more technical ,
first off I shut off everything in the camper to make sure there was nothing
else running .
Got my clamp on amp meter out , 1.6 a on the fan motor , 22 on the
compressor . 23.6 total x 120v =2832 watt surge . That is actual starting
current when I flip the switch .. The gen is supposed to provide 3000 w
,with 2700 rated . Thats cutting it close ,but it also states it can hold
2700 for 30 min . They claim that with the booster it will start all roof
mounted ac units . Doesnt seem to make any difference if the economy
throttle is on or off ,it just rumbles for a second and shuts off . It has
a 30 a receptacle . Back to facts , I did install the hard start capacitor
like they suggest , without any noticable effect . ? Bad booster or a
bad run cap ? Ok now what is really inside the booster ? You can loosen
up the cap ,the bottom half is a start capacitor , top is ?
I dont have any way to test the capacitors ,other than to grab the wire ,
but aint no way thats gonna happen ! I learned all about capacitors back in
jr high . I knew a guy who would charge the darn things up and then pitch
them to some poor soul . I was only dumb enough to catch one .
I also got out the regular colemann 2500 watt gen ,it will start the ac
with no problem . Its rated 2000 run 2500 surge . But it turns at 3600 rpms
,screaming at the top of its lungs . The coleman only has a std 15 a
receptacle . It will also start right up if its pluged into the outside
receptacle on the house . 120 v 15 aa circuit .
I do know where there is an ac unit in the scrap yard ,I will have to
swing by and scrounge up the capacitor and try swapping it out .
Well I will work on it tomorrow after I get home . Ivan
