I use straight 30 wt. in all my old tractors.  If the engine is clean - you 
have had it apart and cleaned all the sludge out or you know that it is 
clean - it's fine to use detergent oil.  If it has a lot of sludge, I would 
hesitate using detergent oil for fear that sludge might get dislodged and 
plug up some of the oil passages.  That's my 2 cents.   John
