[AT] Briggs 18hp starter gear removal? (Off Topic?)

I have an aluminum ring gear.... Purchased a starter on ebay that was
probably aftermarket with nylon ring gear...

Finally got the clip off, boy what a pain. Used tiny screwdriver to get it
started and then worked it out with a larger screwdriver...

Put new gear in but it was too tight and would not fly up... Had to remove
it again...

Used a wood chisel to widen the groove on the gear...

Working now. Thanks you everybody for your help.

Regards,

Will

B&S used to supply two different gears, One for use on plastic (or nylon)
ring gears and one for use on metal (aluminum) ring gears. Don't know if
after market suppliers did the same.
