Possible, but I matched the "R" on the distributor gear with the notch on the other gear with the #1 cylinder just at top dead center of the compression stroke...using both the mark on the flywheel and also by taking hte spark plug out of #1 cylinder and putting a wire in and feeling when it reached top dead center (or just a shade beyond...and double checking to see where the timing mark wa on the flywheel).

Even if out of time, should not a I get a spark at the points?

Thanks

Larry

Well, I am still not  the Farmall A started.  No spark to points.  I put on new points and new condenser.  Set ththe points at .20 and cleaned them.   Had the coil checked.  Put in new distributor gear (old one had a chip in it so the rotor had quite a bit play in it).   Put a new magneto cap on it (it is converted from magneto to 12 volts and the magneto is being used as a distributor.  Put a new wire from the end of the condenser to the base of the points (that is a pain) thinking that it might have a short in it.

Finally quite tonight at 9:30.  Any suggetions.

I have been messing with this thing off and an on now for a month.
