I would check the capacitor on the compressor and the blower motor. It 
sounds like one of them is bad and taking a full load from the generator to 
start one of them up. You might have to get an air conditioner tech to test 
these capacitors. Because they will bite you like a stun gun if they do turn 
out to be good.
