[AT] test

The Showboat can take it....I don't think I have ever heard about specifics
of how she fared in hurricanes Bertha, Fran, and Floyd but AFAIK everything
was ok.

Since you brought up the USS NC, one of my favorite things after old
tractors, they say on the USS NC website,
(http://www.battleshipnc.com/index.html ) there are plans to eventually
move the ship to Norfolk into drydock so they can restore the hull, and
while it's gone, they're going to re-do the slip she's in so when the ship
returns, it will actually be floating instead of sitting in the mud. I
think it says that'll happen no sooner than 2012. When they pull it out,
and when they bring it back, I will be there watching!

One more thing, (Did I mention I really enjoy "The Battleship," as she is
know in North Carolina) you really need to read this book: "Boys of the
Battleship North Carolina" (
http://www.amazon.com/Battleship-North-Carolina-Horrell-Ramsey/dp/0895873397
) it's a great history of the ship taken from oral histories of the crew.
Hasn't been in print very long.

BTW the stars are out right now. We're about an hour north of Wilmington.
Sounds like it will get worse weather-wise in the wee hrs. of Saturday
morning. And you are right-- Raleigh learned about hurricanes the hard
way. They had a big mess after hurricane fran in 1996--I thought I could
go back up there after the storm (I was still a student at NCSU at the
time) and enjoy such luxuries we didn't have after the storm at home, stuff
such as running water, electricity, and air conditioning. WRONG! Didn't
take me long to figure out that DH Hill Library and a lot of other
on-campus buildings had back up generators though.....
