Joe,
Did you see Dean's reply to this?
He lists all the editions and dates published.

Bruce, After reading your e-mail about the plow info from your John Deere
book, I went to my book shelf & found two different copies that I had saved

from my wife's homestead. I have a copy of the 9th and 25th editions of
"
The care, operation, and repair of farm machinery". Its too bad that
publishing dates are not included! The 25th edition describes deep-tillage
farming. It shows a single wedge pointed device working at depts of 10" to

36"which just is breaking up the sub soil. Behind this wedge is a thing
called a mole-ball; a torpedo-shaped steel ball which opens a tunnel through
which the water could flow and drain. The 25th edition shows both rubber
tire , gas & diesel & crawler tractors. Also notes of interest: One ton

liquid manure contains 40% of plant food. One inch of rainfall means 100 ton
of water on every acre. Well enough info for tohight!

Someone out there asked about the types of plows.
I just found my grandfather's book on- The Operation, Care and Repair of
Farm Machinery-
thirteenth edition- published by John Deere=
there is no date of printing, but much of the equipment is horse drawn, the
tractors shown as John Deere's are "the General Purpose Tractor"
to handle a
four-horse load, and a
"Standard type" to handle a two-horse load (looks like an LA).
This book lists 6 plow styles: Prairie breaker, Stubble bottom, General
purpose bottom, Slat moldboard bottom, Black-land bottom, & deep tillage
bottom.
