[AT] OT - big computer problem

Hi Mike,

Sounds like either your hard drive has failed, or there is a problem
with the motherboard in the computer (Probably the hard drive... :o(.

If you have another machine to test with, borrow or purchase one of the
usb to ide converters (make sure it can handle the interface on your
hard drive), and see if you can still read the drive. If you can read
the drive, mostly likely something has failed in the computer
(motherboard or cable).

If you can not read the drive, pickup a replacement hard drive
(MicroCenter, mail order, etc), and replace it. You will need the
cd/dvd media from Toshiba, do not know if they still include it with the
machines any more or not.

Or, replace the laptop, depending on the age and what you can afford
(this is not a apple vs. windows issue, just a simple hardware failure
:o). It may end up not costing that much more, laptops have come "way"
down in price in the last couple of years.

Hope this helps,
Howard

I have a Toshiba laptop, and last night the screen went haywire and put the "start" button on the upper left of the screen, icons were everywhere, it was ridiculous. I restarted the machine, and now all I can get it the following message:
