[AJD] Running temperature

HI JD owners,

Can you tell me if it is generally normal for a JD 420 cooling system to run on the cold side even when working hard?

My 420 has a new temp gage and a new 160 degree thermostat.  About the highest reading that I ever see is 145 degrees when running.  After shutdown, the temp indicator will rise to about 170 briefly and then begin to drop as the engine and cooling system cools.  Even on a hot day about the highest reading I ever see is 145.  I have been intending to use an infra red heat gun on various parts of the cooling system and radiator hoses to see if the temp gage readings are accurate, but have not done that yet.  I was intending to do that this weekend, but forgot to take the heat gun with me.  I live 120 miles away from the tractor.
