I also have a 51 8n, it sometimes does the same thing. Runs, then dies
and after a while it will restart. Turns out the float in the carb
sticks and it runs out of gas. I have not taken the time to fix it yet,
but a swift smack on the bottom of the carb with my pocket knife and it
frees up and then runs fine.
I would not think your coil to be the blame, if it works then it works.
Sometimes a coil my quite ofter it gets good and hot but not when it's cold.
Next time it quites, pull the drain plug out of the bottom of the carb
and see it fuel runs out freely.
