Charlie,

I don't think I can narrow it down to a specific year, but its been a while.
In about 1991 my now departed son bought a beautiful 9 acre home site that I
helped him clean up. There were maybe hundreds of dead elms, all with less
than 10" trunks. My dozer didn't have any protection and the limbs were
brittle (widow makers). Our time frame may have been fairly close to yours.

The multi-flora rose, poison ivy, and osage orange were easier to clean up.

Handles and ball bats = pignut hickory.
