[AT] wireing tractors

When you get into the new tractors with gauge clusters and all.. wireing can
get pretty hairy.

for the oldies that just have ignition power to a coil ( perhaps thru a
resistor ). and a charge line from a genny ( from the bat terminal on the
reg .. or from an alternator ) plus lamps.. it is real simple.

if your tractor has am amp meter.. make that the basic start point for your
wireing. Wire one side of the ammeter to the battery ( or to the hot side
of the start solenoid/switch ).

Wire the wire to the key switch FROM the other side of the ampmeter. From
the key sw to the coil.. if it needs a resistor.. add it inline ( series ).

If there are lamps, wire the feed for the lamp switch to the same side of
the amp meter as the feed for the key switch. from the lamp switch to the
lamps.

Now.. if there is an alternator or genny, run the line from the alt output
stud, or the genny bat tab, to the same terminal on the ammeter that has the
other leectrical loads.. IE. the one with the lamps and ignition.

When you are done.. one side of the amp meter has all the loads and the
charge line.. the other side has a single wire.. the one to the battery or
starter solenoid hot terminal.

turn on your lamps or the ignition with the points closed.. the meter should
deflect negative..... if it does not or when your tractor starts and
charges, if the meter reads backwards.. swap the wires from side to side.

This is the most simple way I know to wire a net charge/discharge setup on a
tractor.
