That precise reason is why I bit the bullet and have contracted for a
combined cable TV, DSL, phone service later this month. For the last
several weeks the AT&T line has been so noisy in the afternoon and evening
that the dialup won't work. Since I have nothing except basic service on
the land line, the monthly cost to me is going to be about $5 more than I
have been paying, but the convenience of the bundled service should be worth
it. I've been telling my kids (grown adults with families) that I am
joining the 21st century. But once Dear Old Dad gets up to speed with
communications, they'll have to find something else to complain to me about.
I wonder what it will be? :-)

Larry
