Why not use the technology the US Navy used in the 20's to make hydrogen
from water. They used the water collected as condensation from the inside of
the airships (not blimps) and split the hydrogen from the oxygen and burnt
the hydrogen in the engines. Much easier than carrying heavy fuel to burn.

Right on!  The problem is there's no free lunch.  Somewhere someone has to
add the lunchmeat.  That fuel cell tractor was interesting but it wouldn't
run without energy input.  That's far different from the greenies who are
looking for a place to drill for hydrogen or waiting for a breakthrough.
