[AT] Cleaning a serial number plate

How do you all go about cleaning up a serial number plate that has
been painted over?  Another tractor followed me home this past weekend
and I can't read the serial number, but I don't want to risk damaging
the serial number plate.  The tractor is a Massey Harris 101jr
