Reply to Al Jones-- It must be the winter doldrums. This morning in
Vermont it is about zero outside, and about zero inside in my interest
in more winter... I would be interested in some comments from those in
the know (all the people on this list, of course) about the news article
last night that corn is now $10/bushel, so wheat is now going up in
price-- to the point where one grower interviewed said he never in his
lifetime saw such a high price for wheat. Baker's flour- 50# sack was
$15, now $40.

well I sure wish I could get someone to pay me $10 for corn---
that's just not the case...
today it was $5.09 where I haul to IF it were a perfect sample.. I
seldom have a perfect sample.
Wheat actually has been the price leader over the past 6mnths.. and
should have longer since for the last 4yrs we have produced less wheat each year
than we had in 1970 (at nearly the same prices) and I know the demand is
up (as well as the price at the retail market) Wheat today on the
Minneapolis market was $18 because of world wide lack of a crop.
I hauled my corn in at $4 / bu so I did not get the $5 that was on the
board and I am assuming most farmers are like me--- sold out at a GOOD PRICE
not getting that Big figure BUT still having to pay the prices as if
we did. ( Nitrogen has doubled).

As to the subsities on Corn taking the acres away .... well as the
price goes up the subsity goes down. And as of now we dont have a
farm program.... maybe we do maybe we dont.
