[AJD] Antique-johndeere Digest, Vol 46, Issue 5

Did a little math (not my strong suit, but bear with me) concerning the intervals of firing impulses on a two-cylinder tractor.

Let's assume that it's a Model "A", running at it's full rated load of 975 rpm. That meant that the crankshaft is revolving 16.25 revolutions per second. Let's assume that we're starting at the precise moment No. 1 cylinder has fired. No. 2 cylinder will then fire .03076 seconds later, then there will be an intereval of .0923 seconds before No. 1 cylinder fires again. I'm sorry, but I cannot see where such minute intervals in power impluses, especially smoothed by a heavy flywheel, could possibly be harmful to a belt-driven machine, especially with the belt itself acting as an additional shock absorber.

I've just seen too much film of JD tractors smoothly running threshing machines and other belt-driven machines to buy into that nonsense that a two-cylinder tractor will damage them. Again, a story perpetrated by the Binderoids, I think.

You know Duane, I've got pictures of that D up on the 4 coke bottles at Expo
III. It was an amazing sight and there were a lot of nay sayers there.
Seeing is believing!!
