Form tha Pa. CDL drivers manual:

All Commercial Drivers’ License applicants must pass a written test to demonstrate sufficient
knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations about the operation of the commercial vehicle or
vehicles they intend to drive.

Applicants who want to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle is defined as follows:a. Has a gross combination weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more inclusive of a towed unit more than 10,000 pounds or

b. Has a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more or
c. Is designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver; or
d. Is of any size and is used in the transportation of materials found to be hazardous for the purpose
of the Hazardous Material Transportation Act which require the motor vehicle to be placarded under
the Hazardous Materials Regulations.

I could read this to say the trailer can be more than 10,000 gross if the combinaton is still under 26,001. It is possible for another paragraph elsewhere to add to or modify / clarify the above paragraph...???
