Well, it still feels like recent history to me but I guess it's getting
close to ten years ago now.  I haven't looked at those pictures in a good
while... had forgotten this one, in which I'm wearing the ATIS t-shirt while
on the beach at Cape Atholl.

March of 1999 through March of 2000.  It was pretty comfortable all in all.
My hat goes off to the folks who were up there in previous decades, when
things were really a lot more austere.  By the time I was there we had
internet connectivity, so I stayed subscribed to this list.  One of the neat
things that happened was that Captain Nebraska expressed an interest in
seeing that part of the world, and I helped lay the groundwork for him to
come up to the base as a morale/recreation speaker.  I went home before his
trip happened and never did meet him, but he later sent this picture:
