[AT] Bending a hook on a spring

Back in my youth my father had invested in a Joyrider seat for the farmall
H. Eventually one spring broke. Our fix was to just slip several wraps of
smooth fence wire through the mext coil in line and make a loop that
mimicked the original eye of the spring. The first time this happenes it is
good for a couple of years or pretty heavy use. Eventually the next coil
will fatigue and break and you can do this again, but the interval before
the next break will be about a year. After the third or fourth break you
should really try to get a new set of springs as the interval to failure is
really short. Joyrider springs may still be available, but I don't know
where off hand. Maybe the right thing to do is to thread the wire (or
strap) through the second coil from the break and the stress would be
significantly less. Our experience says the coil that the wire is threaded
through will be the one to break. Good luck
