No, there was not enough in there to call it "really low"... ;-)
If it were not for an oily film on the cylinder walls I probably would not have made it to the pump. :-)
I was almost home and the gauge was still well up off of the empty mark and then it pretty much collapsed all at once. That is the kind of things that happen to a vehicle that is only used very locally and on the farm most of the time.

I did figure out a "cold only" sort of clatter/rattle I was hearing. It sounded a little like one used to sound that had a cracked place in the thin flywheel where it bolted to the torque converter except it made the noise all of the time. This one stops completely when it warms up. Yesterday I had one of those "DUH!!!" attacks and realized that it was the manifold heat control valve down there on the left side... I knew that the engine was too quiet on long runs to be something too serious or with the level of noise it makes when cold it would have already let go if it was something working hard. My forehead now sits about an inch farther back after I smacked it with my hand when I figured it out. DUH!!!
BTW, I address one of Diana's brothers as "Doug". His wife though says it is "DUH!!! ug"... :-)
