You need to be aware that shipping rules vary throughout the world; an
estimated twenty yeears ago a fellow in Atlanta area had to pay
considerable amount extra because the ship hauling his Mercedes was in a
collision and the rule in that part of world (where the ship was licensed)
was the ship was there providing a service for the people owning the
freight; so these freight owners had to pick up the tab.    They were
assessed an amount based on value of their cargo and on total cost of
damage to the ship. This story was shared by a now retired pilot, and
happened to a friend of his.    I do not know any more about the above
situation.
