The guy that tried welding it told me today he was beginning to suspicion 
magnesium as well

As soon as I get a chance I'll call/go by the welding supply shop and see 
what they reccomend fo mystery metal.

Someone asked what the part is--its the helper handle off a 2 man chansaw. 
To tell the truth I'm getting too nervous to use it. I'll probably begin 
searching for a replacement.
