[AJD] 5x6 bales

You're welcome.

Remember, packing density, moisture content and consistency of mix all
heavily affect weight. Timothy Hay is lighter than Alfalfa. Orchard grass is
lighter than Timothy. In my field, I drill for 50% alfalfa, 30% Timothy and
the rest is orchard grass. It is quite heavy and I bale tight.

The real answer to your question would depend on the type of loader attached
to the tractor and the type of power train driving it. You are talking
2-4,000 lbs that "never strained at all". There's not many pieces of
equipment that could make that claim. To not strain at all would indicate
you were lifting less than 50% of capacity. A loader that could lift 4-8,000
lbs would likely be in the 100-150 HP versions with huge castings and a
serious balance problems (you'd have some mighty big wheel weights). This
isn't exactly Big Bud,

but it is certainly out of the reach of most Antique JDs. Maybe a 4440 or a
4455 could handle it. Chances are it would be more like a 4430 and it was
straining a bit picking up a ton or two.

The JD 563 and 673 loaders max out at 3,000 lbs (1400kg). The 583 and 683
are about 4,500 lbs (2,000kg) and the 753 is about 5,000 lbs (2,200kg). They
would all be straining at 2-3,000 lbs.

Thanks Mike, that was an interesting read. Here I thought a round bale was

just a round bale.
