Has anyone ever rebuilt the gear box on a Woods brush cutter?

I have a heavy duty 6 foot Woods. Last week I went to do a little job. I
had recently checked the gear box grease so I didn't bother to check again.
Luckily for me I had to stop to adjust the springs on the PTO shaft clutch
and decided to check the grease while I was at it. The gear box was dry! I
lifted the lift and shook the blade and the shaft wobbled a good bit.

I was a long way from home and only had about a 1/10 th of an acre left to
mow so I filled the gear box with gun grease and finished up. Now I have to
tear into the gear box and see how much damage I did. I'm sure it will take
an output shaft bearing and seal and I hope nothing else.

Anyone have any advice or experiences with Woods gear boxes to share before
I tear into it?

Charlie
