Yes I exist! It was good to finally meet Farmer and Herb at the show.
Unfortunately I didn't plan my trip well. I got to the show fairly early
Friday morning planning to spend most of the day there. I had other plans
for Saturday. When I got there and after chating with Herb and Farmer I
realized the show hadn't really gotten cranked up good yet. I was tired
from a hard week at work and a 6 hour drive in pouring rain Thursday night.
I hung around and had my picture taken with Farmer and with the bunch at
AllisChalmers.com and then decided to leave and come back later. Well we
never got to riding and looking and never got back on Friday. Saturday was
already booked up solid so I didn't see much of the show.
We did have a good time for the whole weekend. We got a chance to go by and
visit with Gerald Johnson at his store in Avery Co. and we saw some
beautiful fall colors up around Grandfather Mountain. I'm just sorry I
didn't spend more time at the show. In retrospect we should have done our
sightseeing and visiting on Friday and gone to the show on Saturday. I'll
know next time.
Hi H.L., Cecil loved to eat as those that knew him can attest to.
I told him about a famous BBQ joint in Ayden NC named the Skylight Inn but
know by everyone local as Pete Jones's BBQ.
There serve one thing and one thing only, eastern NC chopped pork BBQ
seasoned with a vinegar based sauce. The place was very near Cecil's route
to pick up a tractor and he stopped by. The place is about 40 miles from my
place and I was hoping Cecil would let me know when he was going to stop so
I could meet him there. I wanted an excuse to go but Cecil thought he'd be
putting me out and didn't call. He told me he liked the place but
complained that there was some bone in his BBQ. I laughed at him and told
him I was positive that it was chopped up pig skin. In traditional eastern
NC BBQ they chop up everyt bit of the hog except the bones and the squeal.
I wasn't sure he really liked it but he came back through the area 2 or 3
more times and stopped everytime so he must have.
Gotta get back to work.
Charlie
