Mike Sloane is correct that have a '57 LoBoy with a Mott rear flail mower and I agree with Mr. Puckett's comments about these things. I would add that a chance encounter between flail mower and wire (e.g., downed electric fence wire) assures an afternoon of snipping and swearing. Don't ask me how I know this. I don't use mine as often as I might because it cuts a narrow swath and I need to get things done a bit faster. However, when the opportunity affords itself, there is nothing that I like better than putting around on the Cub with the old Mott rattling away behind.

Farmallcub.com site have them and really like them. I have had a belly
mount version for over 20 years, and am quite happy with it. Mott is
now Alamo Group, and parts are available through many implement dealers,
though the best place I have found for parts is flailmaster.com. The
flails give a cut comparable to a single blade Woods or IH, but they do
not mulch. The do have a tenancy to wrap up if cutting real tall
stringy grass such as fescue. Great for weeds, light brush, etc. Also
a big plus is that they do not throw rocks, sticks, etc. they just roll
them out the rear. The shape of the housing combined with the big
roller on the rear form a baffle so debris just rolls out rather than
being thrown.
