John and I have had a little exchange going off list but I thought this was
pretty good stuff that should be shared.

He also sent me an e-mail with 6 pics of various cans; send me your e-mail
and I'll forward that to you if you wish. It's about 240k big.

Bill, the John Deere "pop bottom" oil cans came in several different colors.

Most common is the "powder blue" like the ones you have. JD made these
avaiable way back before tractors and were often supplied by a dealer when
he sold a mower, etc. Original cost was .29 . They also came in a dark
"Royal Blue", a Dark "John Deere Red", a John Deere Green" a bit different
color shading than now, , and a John Deere Yellow" which is a LOT different
than now.
The oil can that you have is what we call a finger pamper and came in Green
and Yellow. JD also supplied a Thumb Pamper in the same colors, Green and
Yellow. At the present time JD is supplying the same basic oil can & pump
in Black. The real hard one to find is the old "pop cans bottom" in the old

JD Yellow. I have seen two and neither one was for sale!!! If I can find
them I will send you some pictures of mine.

Thanks Much. jg

That's quite a collection. I guess I just don't run across Deere oil cans
very often, although I suppose if I watched for them on eBay I'd see a few.
I do have a green model 92, I think it is, that my wife found at a local
antique store a few years back. Paint is very good but it's badly dented.
I just use it on my bench. I figured it wasn't worth very much. I'd
thought about trying freezing to coax the dent out but I'm sure it would be
far from perfect no matter what I did so I'll just leave it.

What's with the blue color on this can? Why didn't they do the Deere green
and yellow?

And thanks for your help on our auction!
