[AT] Allis C Oil Pump....

All this talk about the Allis C got me to thinking about my Allis C's oil pump....

I believe I have brought up this subject before, but it has been a while, so here it is again...

I rebuilt the engine in the early 90's and I did not touch the oil pump. After running it a few times the oil pressure went away and I split the tractor to have a look. Could not see anything wrong...

Put it back together and then I put a rubber tube on the end of my oil can and ran that over the oil filter rod, and pumped... That primed the pump and the oil pressure came back up.

If I park the tractor downhill, the pressure will not come back up when I go to restart.

If I park the tractor uphill, pressure will come back up.

I have seen many postings on other sites concerning the Allis C and a loss of oil pressure.

I find that while the pump is an elegant simple design, it lacks the advantages that other pumps have when they are submerged in oil... Where, even if a submerged pump is worn, it will still pump... And, the C's pump, when worn? will not because it loses prime....

I am assuming my pump is simply worn out....

Any thoughts on this subject? Do I need a new pump? Or, can I machine a part and make it like new?

Regards,

Will Powell
