John, If the coil doesn't fix it you might look for a problem I had on a
tractor ignition once. Someone had used a piece of solid copper wire (like
house wiring) from the coil to the points. It had work hardened and broken
over time but would make enough connection to run for about 20 minutes under
load. After it started to get warm it would start to break down and
eventually quit. It took me several months, a coil, a condenser, new
points, plugs, cap and rotor and several cussing sessions to finally figure
it out.
Took 2 minutes and a piece of scrap wire to fix it.
