Hello the List,

Have a 1947, first issue, 8N. Bought it in 2002. Never had any old iron
before that the wife liked at all.
She loves the 8N and claimed it for her own. I felt this put me in a good
place with her socially as far
as old iron was concerned. IIt ran fine and all the mechanics and
hydraulics worked fine. Even has a remote hydraulic someone plumbed on to
it. Never
hooked anything on to it to see if it works. Had a Hupp overdrive
transmission. Only thing it needed
was a paint job. I disassembled the bulk
of the iron so I could do a new look paint job and got matching paint from
the Ford
dealer. Painted and reassembled. Got to thinking a new wiring harness
would make a nice
finishing touch. Ordered one and installed it. Had heart attack. Didn't
do anything
for about three years. Started tinkering with it again recently and tried
to make it start. Wouldn't
start without jumping across solenoid. Checked the Ford wiring diagrams
many times.
Can't find the problem area. Have had several people with good knowledge
of circuits
look at it. All agree the wiring is correct. Put on new solenoid even
though the old
one checked out as good. Disabled the push button start and installed a
starter key switch.
Still won't start without jumping across solenoid. Wife said she liked the
tractor just fine the
way it was and didn't know why I did all that. Didn't consume any
carbonated beverage
of any kind including Nu Grape which was my favorite as a youngster
throughout the entire process.(grin)

Any thoughts?

Larry I wouldn't have said anything but 48 e-mails on grape soda sickening
the stuff taste awful to start with.
Lets get this back to tractors with an occasional off topic.
How many of you guys actually own an old tractor that you are restoring or
have restored. Not one that you picked up and got it running and drive it
around the house once a year.
